Terchovské srdce Outlook Tower

As you enter Terchová from the direction of Žilina, a 30-metre-high lookout tower on Oblaz Hill welcomes you on the left. Its shape is reminiscent of the gallows that stood on this very spot in the film Jánošík. The author of the lookout tower is the famous artist and folk architect Alojz Mucha. The author drew inspiration for the name of the lookout tower from the following lyrics of the Terchová song: “The heart of Terchová is divided in two sides, one cries, while the other rejoices...”. The crying heart represents the local cemetery, which is located nearby. An educational trail leads to the lookout tower, where you can learn interesting information about the Malá Fatra Mountains. A big advantage is the quick and easy accessibility of the lookout tower for everyone. The lookout tower has three viewing terraces from which you can enjoy views of Malý a Veľký Rozsutec, Tiesňavy, Obšivánka and Sokolie. Through the narrow entrance to Vrátna Valley, you will see mainly Poludňový grúň and part of Steny Mountain. The lookout tower offers clear views of Mravečník and the ridge that continues from it toward Kováčka. If you are in Terchová, be sure to visit the Jánošík and Terchová exhibition, walk along the Jánošík’s Holes (Jánošíkove diery) trail, one of the most beautiful trails in the Malá Fatra Mountains, and refresh yourself at the local cottages, where you can taste traditional Slovak specialities.
