The highest lookout tower in the Javorník Mountains is the wooden tower on Stratenec (1,055 m above sea level), which was built in 2008. Although it belongs to the cadastral territory of the village of Papradno, many consider the lookout tower to be part of Kysuce due to its ideal access from the recreational area of Makov–Kasárne. The Kasárne Centre was named after a garrison established in 1833 in order to prevent the spread of cholera from Hungary to Moravia. Beautiful views await you along the way, as the route follows the Javorník ridge along the green hiking trail to Butorky, where it joins the red-marked hiking path. From Kasárne, it is also possible to reach the lookout tower via the yellow tourist route, which has a smaller elevation gain. On the summit of Stratenec, you will find a memorial to the victims of the Second World War featuring three concrete crosses. The 10-metre-high tower is accessed via 23 steps. On clear days, you can see Radhošť, Pustevny and Lysá hora on the horizon. From the lookout tower, you can continue on to Malý Javorník or descend using the other marked routes.
