Whoever has been in Jánošík’s birthplace and has not visited Malý Rozsutec, should definitely make up for it. At an altitude of 1,343 metres, Malý Rozsutec is a popular destination for hikers near the village of Terchová. It is situated not far from its big brother, Veľký Rozsutec. The hike is not easy, with an elevation gain of almost 800 metres. The most challenging sections of the trail near the summit are secured with chains. From the top, you can enjoy magnificent views of part of the Malá Fatra ridge, Veľký Rozsutec and Stoh, as well as the villages of Terchová and Zázrivá. The hike can be combined with a visit to Jánošík’s Holes (Jánošíkove diery), making it a very popular hiking trail. This often leads to queues at the chained sections, especially during the summer months. How to get there? The most beautiful and popular trail to Malý Rozsutec leads through Jánošík’s Holes and their magnificent cascades and waterfalls. The route starts in Biely Potok, passes through the Lower Holes (Dolné Diery) and the Upper Holes (Horné Diery) up to the Medzirozsutce Saddle and the Zákres Saddles, and from there to Malý Rozsutec. Most of the hiking trail passes through Jánošík’s Holes, where the environment is damp and wet all year round, so we recommend wearing suitable waterproof hiking shoes. In late autumn, spring, and winter, footbridges, ladders, and chains may be frozen, so be careful and use crampons if necessary. From the village of Zázrivá, a red hiking trail leads to the top. The climb takes up to 2.5 hours with an elevation gain of 746 m. Parking Paid parking is available at the starting point, but be aware that later in the day it may be full.
